These last few Saturdays, I’ve been waxing our skis and snowboards in anticipation of the 2011-2012 ski/snowboard season and our local resorts here in Utah opening.

I went to a local snowboard shop and purchased some all-temp (pink) and cold temp (blue) wax and mixed them by pressing both to the hot iron.

This photo is was taken after I spread the wax drops, and am about ready to scrape.

There are a lot of hikes at Bryce Canyon National Park. We didn’t get to hit many of them during our first trip to the park, but a particular hike, the “Navajo Loop - Peek-A-Boo” trail is one that stole our hearts. The switchbacks seen here are a part of the initial 600 ft drop into the basin/wash. The walls suck you right on down, as you glare at the hoodoo shapes and texture. It’s quite the experience!

A fun treat for us this trip to Bryce Canyon National Park was seeing the wildlife. Other than the common chipmunk, squirrel, mouse, deer, lizard, or the rare skunk, mountain lion, or bear, there is a particular area of the park dedicated to the Utah Prairie Dog. These little mammals would perch up on their hind legs, and look for predators while eating the green grass late in the day.

Over Fall Break, we took a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park. It being my first time there, I was smitten by the unique features and beauty of yet another Utah National Park! I think Bryce Canyon has become my absolute favorite, so expect to see more photos showcasing its beauty and hikes.

Regardless, how did you start out in photography? Your photos are brilliant.

No, it’s my hobby only. I bought a camera (Nikon dSLR) to take photos of my family having fun, and started also taking landscape photos now and then, and uploading the results to Flickr. Then I followed a ton of ppl whom I admire on Flickr and tried to copy what they were doing. I would also comment, and ask questions. Some answer, some don’t. It’s OK. Then I tried my own, and read more material on the web while shooting stuff and found a niche - I like taking photos of the places I visit, and I try to photograph it the way I’d like to remember it.

I still have a long way to go to get to the level I want to be at. But, I like sharing the world how I imagine it looked at that second of time. Thanks for the question.

0_0 you took all of these?
It’s been a while since I’ve headed up to Squaw Peak here in Utah to capture the Fall colors, and so yesterday was that day. I found this little location on a backroad that took me on an unpaved area around the back of the mountain. After parking and hiking around a bit, I found an easy spot to view the sunset and the world below.

A few months back, I took the family down to southern Utah to visit Escalante National Monument. We had such a blast camping, as we had passed peak season, and we were just about the only people staying over in the wonderful campsites they have there.

The sunset on a particular everning seemed to be on fire, and I was lucky enough to get a hold of it. Not only does the area offer great hiking, but slot canyoneering, 4x4 activites, swimming under waterfalls, and searching for Anasazi Indian petroglyphs are also bonus activities here. This is definitely a place which we want to get back to.

Sometime near summer we suddenly had 3-4 fledglings around our yard. They were each shedding baby feathers and out making attempts to fly.
Throughout the non-winter months, Sundance Ski Resort has full moon lift rides, which are perfect to take the wife to on a date night. We bundled up, brought a blanket, got some hot chocolate, and ride the lift round-trip to see the moon, stars, and scenery at night.

This morning my wife brought in a bowl full of beautiful blackberries and raspberries from the garden, and before anyone could eat any, I had to capture the moment. We’ve been enjoying the fresh berries all summer long, but I think this is the largest bowl in one day that I remember. I’m so excited!

I found a neat setting on my P&S which allows greater control for waterfall photos - this was taken with the “Fireworks” setting. Seems logical, as I wanted the streaming water, much like the streaming fireworks.

On a hike up to Timpanogos, I took only my P&S camera due to weight, and with a little editing, I think I found a decent photo. Timpanogos is an amazing hike. Climbing from about 7800’ to 11,700’ in a day will kick just about anyone’s behind. It’s about a 5 hr hike from the bottom of Timpanooke to the summit, and this is a photo of Scout Falls - just 40-45 minutes from the Timpanooke parking lot. An easy hike with kids for such a beautiful location!

Yellowstone National Park is famous for the amazing geysers - and the ones we stopped at were extremely hot geothermal pools with amazing color. This particular pool bubbled with naturally heated spring water and when the steamy mist blew over to you, it felt like I could melt. I can only imagine how hot the water in the pool is!

As we headed back home from Yellowstone National Park, we took the scenic route and also stopped by Grand Teton National Park. It was a literal car-stop here and there, but the mountain range and landscape is one of my all-time favorite.

This weekend I joined our local scout troop to backpack Mt. Timpanogos for an overnighter. After the sun had gone down, the colors in the sky kicked into high gear. I captured this with the “Sunset” setting on the P&S Panasonic DMC-FP1 camera.
